Sheaboter is afgeleid van de korrels van de vrucht van de sheaboom. 
Zelfs vandaag wordt sheaboter op traditionele wijze door vrouwen in West-Afrika geëxtraheerd.
Het product is erg populair en bekend in de wereldwijde cosmetica-industrie.
